Since 1996, Stilton has borne European Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. On 31st December 2020, when Britain left the EU, Stilton joined the UK GI scheme and now bears the UK protected designation of origin (PDO) logo.
Stilton's PDO status means that it can only be made in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, and producers have to follow traditional recipes that have been around for generations.
That's exactly what we do at Cropwell Bishop Creamery. More importantly though, we make Stilton that is worthy of its international reputation as one of the tastiest cheeses available. And we do so with all the care and attention that befits our status as one of the last remaining artisan Stilton-makers in the country.
Because to us, making Stilton is more than just a business. It's a way of life, and we're keen to preserve it for future generations to enjoy.
We're proud to be members of the Stilton Cheesemakers Association (SCMA) - for more information about Stilton cheese, including recipe ideas and the history of Britain's favourite blue cheese, please visit the Stilton Cheesemakers' Association website at www.stiltoncheese.co.uk.
